Remove and Reinstall aka, R&R

Removing solar electric or solar thermal for a new roof cost vary by the number of solar collectors and materials needed to reinstall your solar system.

Cost : We can provide an estimate over the phone. Once we are onsite for the removal, if there are issues that prevent us from reinstalling your system at the cost quoted, we will not move forward and no monies are owed. If your roof is financed and your roofer agrees, the cost of the solar R&R can be rolled into the financing.

Flashings : If your system does not have flashings that cover the penetrations to the roof, we will recommend them to you. If you choose to reinstall your solar without flashing, the warranty is one year. Solar electric reinstalled with flashings will have a 20-year warranty for new flashings and the remainder manufacturer’s warranty if flashings are reused. For solar pool heating, installations without flashing are a one-year warranty and solar pool heating reinstalled with flashings have a 12-year warranty.

Rail-less Systems : Most times, systems that are installed without rails are not flashed and many of the parts are not able to be reused. When the stainless-steel set screw is tightened into the aluminum bracket, the threads become damaged and cannot be reused. Attachments, like the Roof Tech Mini, use butyl tape and cannot be reused. We will provide a price for rail that will include flashings. Should you choose not to agree with the price quoted, no work will be completed and no monies are owed.

Conduit : If your solar conduit was run on top of the roof, we will give you a quote to run the conduits in the attic. The solar installation will look much nicer, work more efficiently and you will have fewer penetrations to the roof. Some installations such as two-story roofs and metal roofs, it is necessary to run the conduit on the roof.

Permits and Engineering : Some jurisdictions require permits to reinstall solar electric systems and some do not. We only pull permits in jurisdictions that require permits. If a permit is required, there will be an additional cost. If new engineering is required, we can provide engineering for an additional cost. In some cases, the jurisdiction may require the system to be brought up to current code, e.g. NFPA fire setbacks. This may result in solar modules being relocated or not reinstalled.
